It was pretty nice outside yesterday evening…after we cleaned up from dinner we all went in the backyard to play some & so Michael could water the garden & all his plants. Emma likes to help him get the tomatoes from the garden, too – okay really she likes to eat the tomatoes from the garden!! And yesterday Michael was showing her his cucumbers and she exclaimed, “Look – PICKLES!!” Ha Ha Ha!! She & Aaron had a good time swinging, too & at one point Emma hoisted herself up into Aaron’s baby swing – I swear the girl can climb anything!! Enjoy the pics!

Last Saturday at my parents’ house Emma & Isabel decided that the Barbies deserved to relax a little and get to swing in the back yard!
When I was about four years old I had an allergic reaction to Amoxicillin – I remember it, though vaguely & with a little help from mother – I had a severe rash, that was actually more like bruises all over & my joints didn’t work. It was like they froze up or maybe they just hurt so I didn’t walk – in either case, it wasn’t pleasant.
Emma has taken Augemtin before for an ear infection and I don’t remember her having a reaction. Last Thursday I took her to the doctor & she was given a prescription for it again (another ear infection). So, she’s been taking it ever since without any problems, but this morning when I woke her up I found that she had a rash all over her. It isn’t really raised – no bumps – more like red blotches all over her skin from her face, behind her ears, down her neck, chest and back and onto her legs. She doesn’t seem to be bothered by it at all and isn’t complaining of anything hurting. I immediately took pics of it and sent them to my parents and sure enough, mother said it looked similar to what happened to me when I was four. I called the doctor and he says most likely it is a reaction to the medicine – to quit giving it to her and give her some Benadryl, so that’s what I did. She is with the baby sitter now and apparently feeling fine. The rash was still there about 8:30, but I guess it’ll take a little time for the Benadryl to make it go away.
So…now when the doctors ask if she is allergic to anything I think we can safely say Penicillin, just like her mommy. It was pretty scary to see this morning, though – she was laying on her stomach so I didn’t see it at first, then when I turned her over to wake her and saw this red from head to toe it really made me catch my breath. I am just so thankful the reaction was only a skin reaction and not something respiratory that could have been very serious! Allergies like that really scare me.
Well, today was my first day back in the office. It was easier than I thought it would be, but by the end of the day I was nearly climbing out the window, though b/c I was so ready to get home to my babies. Work wasn’t too bad today as we just closed the quarter so it’s a slow time – which is good b/c I can review everything that has been going on since I left now.
Aaron is growing so fast – I cannot believe he is already over two months old!!! And his big sister just loves him to death! I have to keep a watchful eye b/c she wants to hug & kiss on him all the time and I’ve caught her a couple of times trying to pick him up, too!! Oops! She does love him, though and I am so happy for that!
We had a good weekend together, too – even though Emma has been sick. She has had an ear infection in both ears – I think she is just about to get well, though…I hope. We were actually supposed to go out of town, but the weather said that there were supposed to be thunderstorms in East Texas and Emma was starting to get sick at that time so we decided it would be better to stay home. We went out to dinner & out for ice cream (b/c that’s what you do when you’re sick, right)…it turned out the weather wasn’t bad as predicted but since Emma wasn’t feeling good I was glad we didn’t go around Grannie & get her sick, too. Sunday she started feeling better so we went to a church bazaar in the afternoon – it was a lot of fun and Emma had a great time!
She had a great time, while Aaron slept the entire time! Ha ha! He tends to do that, though. I think she is on the end of this sickness now & hopefully before Thursday will be back running at full speed again – Lord help us! Even sick she keeps me running. And it won’t be long until Aaron is the same way – he is so strong already. When he is inclined you can watch him try his hardest to pull his head forward like he is trying to sit up or something! Slow down baby!!! I’m not ready for you to be running all over the place just yet!!
We’ve been on the go all day. Cleaning, running errands, playing with friends…and now everyone is winding down. Emma has passed out on the couch and Carlton is fighting falling asleep!! He hung out with us tonight while his parents went out to dinner. I think they are on their way & if he would give in I think he would be asleep in about two seconds! LOL
Oh, his parents just called – yes, they will be here in about ten minutes. I’d take bets on him being passed out by the time they get here! Ha ha!
Last night we had a great dinner with friends – one of my former coworkers and his wife and two little boys. Emma has some new friends now and they are very close by so I see more play dates with them in the future. Their oldest son is just a couple months older than Emma and the other is younger by a little over a year. They all played so great together, though – they never stopped and laughed the whole time. I love having good friends close by like that.
Tomorrow after church we’re going over to Jamie & Steven’s house – Jamie’s sister and her husband have a big announcement for everyone. They just found out whether they are having a boy or girl and wanted to tell everyone at the same time – I thought that was pretty cool!!!
I’ve also been working on a couple of my own projects today – one digital and one semi-digital! LOL – it’ll make sense when I post my finished products! The semi-digital one may also be part of a gift, so I don’t know if I’ll share it right away on here…I know, I hate it when other people do teaser-posts, too. I’m sorry!!! I just haven’t been crafty in so long (been pretty occupied) so I am excited that I’ve had the opportunity now!
I was talking to mother earlier and we were working on some dates for things and I realized that I only have two more weeks of maternity leave left. I really was a week behind in my head and thought I had three more weeks. I was so sad to find out that I was wrong. I can’t believe it’s already been 8 weeks. I know I don’t want to be a stay at home mom full time, but it is hard to go back to work after being with my babies as much as I have been lately. It’ll be easier a week or two after I go back to work, but that first week is going to be torture. I just know it is…at least it won’t be a very busy time when I go back so I’ll be able to leave work on time every day, too and hopefully it won’t be as hard with the 2nd kid as it was with the first when it was time to go back to work.
(Carlton is still fighting it…poor baby, I know he is so tired!! Oh – and there is his mommy at the door!)
How your baby’s growing:
It’s hard to say for sure how big your baby will be, but the average newborn weighs about 7 1/2 pounds (a small pumpkin) and is about 20 inches long.
A small pumpkin – okay, seriously little boy, it’s time to come out & say hello to Mommy, Daddy & your big sister! I don’t want to wait till this is updated to “watermelon”!! And given the fact that he’s the size of a “small pumpkin” he can’t really move around too much so every time he decides to kick me it’s in the same exact spot so I have a permanent sore spot from getting pummeled from the inside! I am going to get to see him this morning, though – via ultrasound. I have an appointment at 11:00. I am anxious to see him one way or another!!
We did have a good weekend, though. Friday night I really did think I was going into labor, but the pains passed with out anything happening. Saturday morning my brother, nephew & parents came over. My brother, nephew & Michael installed our shiny new kitchen sink – I love it!!! It’s sad that a kitchen sink is what excites me now! LOL – it is pretty, though! I was so ready to get rid of the porcelain one. I just knew I was going to love it, but no way – stainless is the only way I’ll go from now on! After my brother & nephew left we went to eat with my parents (that’s where the picture in my previous post is from).
We rode with them and when they brought us back to the house & were getting ready to leave Emma asked to go home with them. We weren’t planning on it, but she really wanted to go and made it apparent she wasn’t going to be happy if she couldn’t go with Teta & Geddo – so we packed her clothes & got her church dress & off they went – mother sent me a picture less than 10 minutes later and she was passed out again – she didn’t wake up until the next morning!! She went back to sleep after church, too & when Michael and I got there for lunch she was still napping so I got in the bed with her and she woke up!
When we got home on Sunday Michael & I were both feeling a bit yuck – sinus congestion is kicking our butt on top of me feeling like I’m about ready to pop so we took it easy the rest of the evening to get ready for the weekly grind this AM. I was anxious to get up and get the day going actually b/c I am ready for my ultrasound this morning and to see if we’re making any progress yet! I’ll give another update after my appointment this morning!
I took the day off b/c my nephew drove down from Dallas to fix our heater today – my boss emailed me she had to keep telling people, “No, she isn’t in labor!!” LOL! Funny b/c I figured that would happen! I wouldn’t mind if that had been the real reason I wasn’t at work, though.
This past week has been such a pain dealing with this heater. I don’t know what we would have done this week w/out our amazing family – my parents brought over space heaters, which has kept our room nice and toasty – Emma has been sleeping with us this week, too so she’ll be warm at night, too. We had a technician come out to see about it when it first started acting up, but he didn’t know what he was doing obviously b/c he said there was nothing wrong with it…that it was a problem with the circuit board and when we reset it (like my brother had told me to do on the phone) it must have fixed the problem. He was so wrong – b/c the next day it was out again – thankfully I have another friend here in Houston that owns an AC business and he came out late one night to check it out for us. He knew immediately what the problem was – the the motor was going out on our blower. He said it could go out at any time…so my brother drove up after that and replaced the motor for us. He said he knew immediately that it was going out when he looked at it – made me so angry that the technician didn’t have a clue what he was doing.
After he replaced the motor, though it still wasn’t working for some reason and this time he didn’t have the part that needed replacing. It was something that Michael could replace so yesterday he stopped to get one on the way home and of course, the AC supply place didn’t have any in stock. I was talking to my brother about it and he also suggested talking to my nephew, his son. When I did my nephew said he was going to be off today and would rather just drive down today and check it out himself and fix it for us…like I said, we have an amazing family and don’t know what we would do without them.
So, I took the day off and he drove down this morning – he had it all fixed (it wasn’t that part that needed replacing) in a matter of fifteen minutes!!!! He’s pretty smart like that! I think we are going to start having someone come check out our system every year now (should have been doing that to begin with), but I won’t let them make any repairs or replacements w/out talking to my brother or nephew first. After that technician came out and didn’t know the first thing of what he was doing I don’t know if I’ll let anyone but my brother or nephew or my friend that came out do a thing to our system for fear they’ll do more harm than good just get money out of us.
I am so glad my nephew came down b/c our plan was to replace the part Michael stopped to buy – it was actually a good thing it wasn’t in stock b/c we would have replaced it only to find that our system still wasn’t working. I just wanted to cry when Michael told me they didn’t have it, but turns out that was the best thing that could have happened. I’ve just been so sick of dealing with this issue – I was scared I was going to bring a newborn home to a cold house, though I know we could have stayed at my parents’ house if that had happened, but I just wanted it fixed. And now it is!!!
